Our 14-Day-Old Maine Coon Kitten Just Opened His Eyes
Share
There’s something truly magical about watching life unfold one moment at a time — especially when it’s through the tiny blinking eyes of a 14-day-old Maine Coon kitten.
Our newest little heartbreaker, born just two weeks ago, has now officially opened his eyes to the world — a milestone that marks the beginning of his journey into curiosity, bonding, and growth.
Milestone: First Peek at the World
At around 7–14 days of age, most kittens begin to open their eyes. This marks a huge developmental leap — though their vision will remain blurry for a while, it allows them to start recognizing shapes, light, and motion.
Maine Coons are known for their expressive, large eyes, and we can already see his gentle gaze starting to form. His eyes will gradually transition in color over the next few weeks, often changing from blue-gray to golden or green.
Growth at 14 Days Old – What’s Happening Now?
- Weight: Maine Coon kittens at this age usually weigh between 250–400g (depending on litter size and nursing success).
- Ears: Starting to lift off the head, though still folded. Sound perception begins to develop.
- Mobility: He’s not quite walking yet — more like scooting! But he’s building muscle tone each day.
- Vocalization: Soft mews begin to develop as a form of communication with mom and littermates.
- Bonding: He responds to warmth, scent, and touch — both from his mom and humans.
About the Breed – Why Maine Coons are So Special
Maine Coons are one of the largest domestic cat breeds, with males often reaching 15–25 lbs as adults. But it’s not just their size that sets them apart — it’s their affectionate nature, dog-like loyalty, and majestic beauty.
Their slow growth rate means they stay “kittenish” for longer — full maturity often takes 3–5 years, and many owners say this makes for a lifelong bond.
